The Obamas WANT Their Daughters To Work For Minimum Wage! Find Out Why!
Well, working as a production assistant for Steven Spielberg isn’t exactly starting from the bottom. However, TMZ reported Malia got no special treatment and was even asked to get coffees while on set. The Obamas want their children to grow on their own and in an interview with Parade magazine, the first couple shared how they want their daughters to work for minimum wage to build their character. Find out what else they had to say after the jump!
The Obamas know how to raise their kids. Not only teaching them the value of a dollar but also that you can’t be truly successful by using your family’s notoriety. They also want their young daughters to sympathize with those who weren’t born as fortunate.
“We are looking for opportunities for them to feel as if going to work and getting a paycheck is not always fun, not always stimulating, not always fair. But that’s what most folks go through every single day,” President Obama said.
The President and First Lady Michelle Obama spoke of their own experiences working minimum wage jobs in their youth, with the President revealing he once scooped ice cream at Baskin Robbins and was even a waiter in an assisted living facility.
“Oh yeah. I think every kid needs to get a taste of what it’s like to do that real hard work,” Mrs. Obama said.
Well, it’s definitely commendable that the Obamas don’t think they’re above anyone else, even with their position in this country. It’s a good thing for their girls that the President made it a priority to raise minimum wage, with it going up to $10.10 an hour for federally contracted workers.
President Obama and First Lady Michelle also plan on hosting a Working Families Summit on Monday in Washington, D.C.
