The Widow

One of a kind sculpture of a mourning widow at the graveside. About 20 inches tall. Purchased by a private collector.

Some of my extended family have always worked at Disneyland in Anaheim. A few were there from day one and helped to build the park. As a child I spent many days riding my favorites over and over. I can't count how many times I rode The Haunted Mansion. I was always fascinated by the small figure at the end named "Little Leota" after Leota Toombs, the Imagineer who acted in the film projected on that little movie screen face. I would walk backwards on the exit escalator just to get a good long look at her. She was the inspiration for my Widow sculpture.

“Hurry back...Hurry back! Be sure to bring your death certificate, if you decide to join us. Make final arrangements now. We've been dying to have you…”

Your doll is amazing. I recall as a child seeing a woman dressed in black robes at the cemetery when we went to visit my mother's little sister's grave site. That was the day I learned cemetery manners...I was dancing on a grave and my grandmother got after me for being disrespectful and that's when I noticed the woman in black...seemed I was the only one that could see her since I was quite open about her appearance to my family. They told me I was must being silly!! I was 4, so I didn't really know much about death or dying or ghosts!!

As for the Haunted Mansion, I love that ride too. I remember taking my children on that ride and they got a kick out of our guest riding with us.

One can never get enough of the Haunted Mansion.

The sculpture is eerily fantastic!

Totally saw the "Leota" inspiration even before I finished reading your post. Love her!!! I have an annual pass to Disneyland - I go at least a couple times a month. I will say "Hi" to Leota for you next time I see her!

Ummmm....she's fabulous and perhaps the coolest thing I've ever seen. I am pea-green with envy that I am not the person who created her.

I too have always been fascinated with that little lady at the end of the Haunted Mansion ride. My two favorites, Mansion and Pirates. Could ride them all day.

Your work is beyond fabulous!
